I definitely recommend this book to all readers since every single person can take something from this book, negative or positive. I personally enjoy this book because it makes you feel as if what he did was amazing and if you, too, need an adventure like that in your life. Krakauer interviews the people who Chris has interacted with, and all of them say that Chris changed their life for the better, even those who he only shared a car ride with. The story jumps around occasionally, but it is just extraordinary to me how a single young man was able to travel almost all of the United States by foot and hitchhiking, and then end up in Alaska where he lived in the Wild until August 1992. Into the Wild follows the life of Chris McCandless, a young man who dropped everything and took to the road, and how he even ended up in Alaska in the first place and although he is dead, the trail and influences he left behind live on in those he met. September 1992, a young man named Chris McCandless is found dead in the Alaskan Wilderness and Jon Krakauer is determined to sniff out every clue as to why. He arranged that the letters they sent him all summer (in lieu of calling he had no phone) would. Into the Wild is a pretty infuriating movie, because it insists on treating the central character as an escapee from Godspell. He drives west until he can drive no farther, and then north into the Alaskan wilderness.

Jon Krakauers Into the Wild, which I read with a fascinated dread, tells the story of a 20-year-old college graduate who cashes in his law school fund and, in the words of Mark Twain, lights out for the territory. A lovely young person appears and touches the lives of people from all walks of life, bringing them a little bit of sunshine, and guilelessly showing the way to a better life. S ean Penn has achieved a new maturity and depth as a director with this movie - though I detected some fractionally misjudged touches of machismo.
